Elodie
the
being fitted for her gown.
Embroidered flowers and tulle
will entwine up the front.
My favourite rosette garland
of ombre ribbons in a band
across the petticoat.
Then more lace and the gauze
and the ribbon roses and the
tulle and the braid...
The most thrilling thing
about 18th century fashion?
There's no such thing as too much!
I'm adding the last ruffles to her robe
and the fancy cuffs to her sleeves
and she's nearly, nearly done.
Which is good,
as she already has a home to go to.
Elodie's hair is still wild
but mulberry paper roses
and silky ribbons will fix that.
She looks lovely...:) What a sweet print you have used for her dress and I really love the idea of the roses entwined with the gauze.
ReplyDeleteThank you! I've hoarded that little scrap of rose and tulle trim for so long (like about ten years...) just waiting for the right doll to come along. When I tried it on her, it fitted almost exactly. Must have been meant to be!
DeleteShe has really got that expression of pride and at the same time of loneliness? But she is not alone, I am glad she has found her home so soon! Can't wait to see her finished in her beautiful dress!
ReplyDeleteThank you! She does have a wistful little expression, doesn't she? That was just how she came out; you know how dolls choose what they want to be. I'm so delighted she has somewhere to go, instead of sitting on a shelf and waiting.
Deleteyes, i love her expression, she has a bit of a wild woman in her...i imagine how that would have been in that time! I hand stitch dolls and i notice when i turn her inside out, that is when she really begins to tell me who she is. your adornment is gorgeous. what fun!
DeleteShe is beautiful in all her finery. You really dressed her in such a regal way!
ReplyDeleteand there is that proud doggie again...lol
Thank you! I was worried about swamping her with frills and ribbons, but looking at the fashions of the time, they were pretty over-the-top, so I just decided to go with it, and I'm glad I did.
DeleteHeh! Bessie Dog is such a ham!
I wish I lived in a time when more was better! She looks gorgeous and I like her wild hair, but looking forward to seeing how you tame it!
ReplyDeleteCarol
I know what you mean about living at the wrong time!
DeleteAs for her hair, I'm going to make hers all Marie Antoinette and fancy, but I really like how it looks all loose. I'll have to make another doll, this time with floaty white tresses

DeleteShe already has a home to go to??? Lucky person who is getting her! I actually love her wild hair! It looks like it's blowing in the wind ;o) She is looking beautiful ;o)
ReplyDeleteI have to admit, I love her unicorn hair, all white and wavy, so I'm going to have to make another doll where it's left loose. And yes, she has a home. I'm delighted!
DeleteShe is turning out sooooo gorgeous!!! Yes, very lucky person who is getting this beauty!
ReplyDeletehugs,
Teresa
Thank you, Teresa! She was spoken for, before I even put her in the shop!
DeleteHer hair is brautiful I am sure it will look lovely with roses and ribbons.
ReplyDeleteThank you, Willow! That's how I feel, too! So this doll will be all fancy and the next will have loose, wavy hair. Or be a unicorn, I can't decide which!
