It's World Doll Day!
The second Saturday
of every June is
WORLD DOLL DAY!
My 'Alice, Dreaming' doll, dozing in her bed on the lawn. |
Started by Mildred Seeley
in 1986
it encourages the celebration of dolls
and the role of dolls
in spreading love and understanding.
What a lovely Alice in Wonderland doll! She looks so peaceful
ReplyDeleteThank you, Tabitha. She's one of my favourites and it's going to be a wrench to finally let her go!
Deletebeautiful,xx Rachel
ReplyDeleteAww, Rachel, thank you. There's all kind of bunnies near where she's sleeping. I was hoping to get a photo of one of them if they came close.
DeleteI never knew there was a "World Doll Day". I read the article on Mildred Seeley and learn something new. I would love to see a photo of the doll collection that sold in 202.
ReplyDeleteYour dreaming Alice is beautiful.
I have to admit I was really shocked to find I didn't know about this date. I'd heard the name 'Seeley' connected with dolls, but I thought it was a company that made porcelain fairies. Her collection does sound fabulous, doesn't it? That's why we buy dolls, right? They're an investment! *winks*
DeleteI love your Alice Doll, she's one of my favourites.
ReplyDeleteEnjoy World Doll Day :)
One of mine, too! I learned so much making this doll. Like what, I hear you ask? Like not hoarding all my vintage fabric, but to actually start using it to make the dolls!
DeleteIs there a World Action Figure day? Or do Oliver and Orlando have to jump in with the dolls to celebrate?
ReplyDeleteI think they need the ladies around as I'm not sure they'd celebrate with each other. Oliver isn't like that, apparently. As for Orlando, I think he's anybody's.(Which is ironic, as he doesn't have a body yet..)
DeleteThank you for alerting me to World Doll Day, Rhissanna! I had no clue. I'll have to remember for next year and do something to celebrate. :) Your Alice doll really is so lovely.
ReplyDeleteI have to be honest here and admit I didn't know either. And I'm a real lurky troll on doll sites so I don't know how I missed it. I think this event needs more publicity, right? Isn't that what the internet is for?
DeleteWhere have I been, under a rock? I should know this.. World Doll Day!
ReplyDeleteSuch a grand celebration!
The photo here with your beautiful Alice.. At first glance, I thought it was the cover of an art magazine!
blessings,
Penny
We really need to get the word out for next year for World Doll Day. Flags, events, prizes!
DeleteAnd that's such a sweet thing to say about the Alice photo. Funnily enough, she's one of a series I did out in the garden, for an online art magazine coming out next week. Next week! I'm so excited!
Yes we sure do! That is a great idea..
DeleteOh my gosh, congratulations Rhissanna! What online magazine is it, if I may ask... I sure hope she is on the cover, because that is where this photo belongs.. How exciting for you...
Thank you so much for wishing Jasper a Happy Birthday! He is precious to me.
It's called Last Laugh Magazine. There's a link here to all the back issues. I'll be spamming links here on the blog when it happens, which I think is 26th June, and to celebrate I'll be putting up a free doll pattern.
DeleteWell you learn something new everyday. I must make a note for next year:)
ReplyDeleteI know, right? I didn't know until the morning and I thought, well, that can't be right, surely we'd all know. But it is a real thing, and yes, we should all make more noise next year!
DeleteWell I didn't even know! What a cute and lovely day. Perfect for you and your beautiful creations!
ReplyDeleteThank you very much. this year was the first I'd heard of it. Next year, we need to make more noise!
DeleteYour sleeping Alice looks so real!!! She is so beautiful and magical! Big Hugs ;o)
ReplyDeleteAww, thank you so much, Stacy! She's always been a real sweetheart to pose and photograph. I'll miss her when she goes.
DeleteI have heard of world doll day but never remember the date. Thanks for reminding me and I do love so love your sleeping Alice.
ReplyDeleteThank you, Shashi! I'm just glad I still had her for the photographs. Next year we really need to do something about World Doll Day!
DeleteYeah!
ReplyDeleteExactly! :)
DeleteHow on earth did I miss this post? *needs to have another Doll day now* XXX
ReplyDeleteYes! Yes, next year, we're going to do a BIG doll day!
Deletedoll day?! How fun, Alice is adorable!
ReplyDeleteCarol
Thank you so much, Carol! Yes, I only just caught it this year. It needs to be bigger!
DeleteI love all the storybook dolls. I think we own every book about Alice and all the other fun stories thru the years. what classics. You always create such wonderful dolls. Funny how so many people have so many different ideas of what they love. Always good to see you here.
ReplyDeleteThank you so much, Anne! One of the wonderful things about Alice is that she's wide open to interpretation by artists everywhere. Even if I just copied Tenniel's original drawings, there's three different dresses, in different colours.
